“Sanctuaries” are a series of shoe-box-sized boxes filled with different plastic flowers, grass, branches, moss etc. The only real thing inside is a dried-up butterfly; hornet; fly; grasshopper etc., which, through a servo motor, are being forced to move like a zombie. It’s a cynical analogy to the effort of some people to preserve specific species or pieces of land, which, when looked at globally, is really not enough, and the ecosystem destruction trend continues downwards.
